Beatrix Joyce is a choreographer, writer and researcher based in Berlin. She finds her inspiration in sites and in the outdoors, seeking to explore the relationship between humans and nature through the body and the senses. Having moved between countries from a young age, she is interested in the multitude of perspectives and fictions that places hold within them.
With her collaborators in the interdisciplinary performance group WILD ACCESS (founded in 2021) she creates site-specific and immersive performances that re-interpret and re-imagine public spaces. Previous locations include running tracks, parks, gardens, urban greenways, galleries and memorial sites such as Berlin’s former bear pit. The interdisciplinary performance group strives to incorporate their surroundings and their audience in their creations and touches on environmental topics through inventive and accessible performances. In 2023 she worked with visual artist Wiktoria W. on a choreographic film as part of her research project Traces with five performers from Lublin, Poland. From 2024 she began working on solos with performer and dancer Marcos Nacar (Berlin), performer and researcher michela filzi (Berlin) and poet and performer Cecilia Erismann (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Beatrix Joyce is a recipient of the Fonds Darstellende Künste Rechercheförderung (2021) and the DIS-TANZEN research grant (2021), as well as the Dance in Residence Brandenburg residency (2022). She holds a BA in Contemporary Dance from Laban, London (2014) and an MA in Sociology from Goldsmiths University (2016). She also works as a writer and producer for the artists Daniel Kötter, Eva Meyer-Keller, Claire Vivianne Sobottke, Moritz Majce & Adam Man. She is a regular contributor to the live art writing platform Stream (hosted by Tanzfabrik) and Springback Magazine (Aerowaves European dance network). |
